A COUNTRY PRACTICE
Laura Abbot
Harlequin, Feb 2001, $4.50, 296 pp.
ISBN: 0373709706

In Salt Flats, Oklahoma, Kate Manley knows she must get on with her life following the death of beloved husband Ed from a long time illness. Kate's two daughters live in Denver and Phoenix and she realizes she can no longer stall on her deathbed promise to Ed, who believed in his beloved spouse's artistic talent.

After what seems like a lifetime practicing medicine in a big city hospital, Dr. Sam Gray has moved to Salt Flats to take over the practice of retiring physician Dr. Floyd. He has always wanted to work in a small town where the doors remain unlocked and neighbors say hello using a name.

No way could Sam and Kate make a match of it even when love enters the equation. Kate cannot let go of the memory of her high school sweetheart who she vowed to love forever even though she knows that Ed would tell her to get him and get on with her life. Sam wants Kate like no other woman he ever met, but he realizes the competition with her late spouse is too difficult for him to surmount.

A COUNTRY PRACTICE is a warm contemporary "Hometown" romance with two enticing lead characters. Sam is a patient individual whether he deals with patients or his "kiss me" Kate, who fears to destroy her loving memory of Ed with a new lover. Laura Abbot paints an appealing tale of a second loving relationship if the person takes the chance.
