In 1892 Brimstone, Texas, Harvey Girl Rose DuBois plans to marry a wealthy rancher. Her sights are on Stephen Rayburn, who begins to court her. Meanwhile drifter Zach MacKenzie, who hangs with the nasty Jess Tait and his gang, tries to see Rose too although she constantly rejects him as a saddle bum.
Zach is actually an undercover Ranger trying to ferret out local rustlers with Jess and cohorts as the prime suspects. He is also related to one of the wealthiest Texas families with a massive ranch as its base. Zach knows Rose is bad for his inquiries, but cannot resist seeing her. Eventually, Zach and Rose fall in love even as she becomes engaged to Stephen. Even if Zach and Rose find a way to find happiness together, they still must deal with Jess and his gang and the unknown boss funding their shenanigans.
ZACH continues the saga of the MacKenzies (this is book seven) with an exciting tale worth reading. However, readers will find the final chapter as unnecessary filler. Still, the story line is loaded with action, romance, and the ambiance of the times. Rose is an intrepid individual who does the right thing when the time comes to act. Zach is a hunk that the audience will cherish. Ana Leigh keeps her tradition going strongly in an Americana romance that will please her fans even as it show why she is an award winning writer.
